1. What is BNI’s Philosophy and Code of Ethics?

BNI’s philosophy is Givers Gain.  What goes around comes around.  If I give business to the members in my chapter, members of my chapter will, in return, send business to me.  This happens once we all take the time to get to know, like and trust each other.

BNI Code of Ethics

  1. I will provide the quality of services at the prices that I have quoted.
  2. I will be truthful with the members and their referrals.
  3. I will build goodwill and trust among the members and their referrals.
  4. I will take responsibility for following up on the referrals I receive.
  5. I will display a positive and supportive attitude with BNI members.
  6. I will live up to the ethical standards of my profession.

Note:  Professional standards outlined in a formal Code of Ethics supercede the above standards.

2. What is the investment I’ll be making into my business?

There is a one time registration/application fee of $100.00.  Annual dues are $365.00 for one year or $565.00 for two years (a savings of $65.00/year!)

Breakfast/Lunch and/or room dues vary by chapter.

3. How often do chapters meet?

Chapters meet on a weekly basis to pass business referrals.

4. Do I have to attend every week?

Yes.  We focus on developing relationships.  To do this, we must be in attendance every week to show that we are committed to helping others grow their businesses.  In return, the other members will do the same.

5. What about having a substitute?

If you know you are going to miss a meeting, arrange for a substitute to represent your business that week.  By having someone there in your seat, your business continues to be represented even though you are unable to be there.

It is your responsibility to have them know how to give your 60 second commercial (Sales Manager Minute)

6. How many absences am I allowed?

Each member is allowed 3 absences in a 6 month period.  Please note the time frame:  (April 1-Sept 30 and Oct 1-Mar 31).

You will receive written notice if you have missed your 3rd meeting.  If you miss your 4th meeting, your membership may be terminated and your industry representation will open up for another person to apply.

7. Can anyone join a chapter?

We only allow one person per professional specialty in each chapter.  So if you are a residential real estate professional and the chapter already has one, then we would refer you to another chapter or allow you to open another chapter.

8. How do you know that your members are reputable?

Each chapter has a Membership Committee that reviews each application and applicant thoroughly.  The Membership Committee will check two business references and complete an interview with the applicant.  BNI is based on word-of-mouth, so before they even come to a meeting they have either already spoken with a member or have been invited by someone in the group.

9. What occupations benefit the most from networking?

It is more the individual rather than the occupation that determines if you will benefit from membership.  If you are focused and you have a dream and are willing to work your network appropriately, you may be a good fit for a BNI chapter.

10. Are members supposed to bring visitors?

All members are encouraged to bring visitors for the occupations that are open. In order to build a quality network of professionals we first seek to expand our contacts by inviting people that we know, like and trust.
